Interesting fact

So just something interesting I learned when I took my developmental biology course is that the very first organ you have is actually the placenta. The placenta comes from the embryo and it essentially burrows into the uterine lining to reach the maternal blood stream. Furthermore the DNA component that the placenta comes from is not from the mothers side but from the fathers. A lot of pregnancy problems (pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, etc) can arise from a placenta that is not in the best standing. Which, as we learned in the course, means that men should also monitor things like sperm health and that sperm quality does have a time frame for which it begins to decrease. Decreases quality can lead to potential problems in the placenta that can be life threatening to both the fetus and the mother. Just some facts that I thought were cool.
